Today, we present to you our Rebrand Nigeria Ambassador, Ms Thelma Ekiyor, a well trained Nigerian development expert with over 20 years experience working in the sector as a donor, philanthropic advisor, non-profit practitioner and social entrepreneur.
Thelma is the Founder and Chairperson of Afrigants Resources Ltd (Social Enterprise), an indigenous social company that mobilizes financing resources and collaborations to support social impact investments in education and responds to challenges in the rural communities of Africa.
In addition, Co-Founded The Funding Space, a platform that facilitates training and mentorship programs as well as presents opportunities where social entrepreneurs, startups, SMEs, donors, investors, etc meet to brainstorm on solutions to solving the social problems in the country.
Thelma is also the Managing Director of SME.NG, a new investment platform that was launched in September, 2019, to provide business idea strategies and capacity building opportunities for women and youth owned MSMEs across the country.
She has held Executive positions in several renowned organizations including, TY Danjuma Foundation and West African Civil Society Institute (WACSI) where she was responsible for capacity building initiatives in 15 countries.
She was once the Director of Programs for the West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP). While working at WANEP, she founded the Women in Peace building Network (WIPNET), and then served as its first Regional Coordinator in Ghana.
She is an International Board Member to ISIS WICCE in Uganda, and the Global Centre on Responsibility to Protect in New York.
Ms Ekiyor is a consultant to a number of international and Pan African institutions, including Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva, the United Nations (UNIFEM, UNDESA, ECA, OSAGI and UNITAR), the Africa Union, and Regional Economic Communities (specifically ECOWAS, SADC, IGAD and ECCAS).
Thelma has led and supervised several social impact projects to improve underprivileged communities across 22 countries in Africa, in the areas of conflict resolution, women’s leadership, capacity building, project management and grant making.
She has developed indigenous training tools on peace building in Africa and as well designed a gender-sensitive methodology for training women peace building practitioners in Africa. Ms Thelma Co-founded the Women Peace and Security Network Africa (WIPSEN-Africa).
She serves as the Editor of “Her Stories”, a journal that communicates women’s experiences in peace and conflict.
Did you know that this internationally recognized development expert, Thelma is a Nigerian from Delta State? She holds a LLB Honours in International Law from University of Buckingham and a Fellowship from Stanford University USA. She also holds an MBA on Entrepreneurship from Imperial College London.
