Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this week’s edition of the Rebrand Nigeria Ambassador Series! We are starting off with a passionate educationist who is currently a nominee in the 100 Most Influential Young Nigerians 2019 under the category of Personal Development and Academia. His name is Gideon Oluwaseun Olanrewaju.
He is a social entrepreneur, Learning and Development Practitioner and founder of Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi), a non-profit organization that he established in 2014. The organization is aimed at improving the quality of education and creating empowerment opportunities for school-aged out-of-school marginalized children, particularly girls and women in some of Nigeria’s most remote communities through the fund raising, advocacy, economic and infrastructural development. With about 16,000 beneficiaries reached in 8 schools and 21 communities, AREAi projects to reach 1 million out-of-school children over the next 10 years by utilizing technology and creative alternative learning resources.
Gideon holds a degree in Biochemistry from Ladoke Akintola University Ogbomosho, masters in International Education and Development from University of Sussex, UK- 2018. He is currently pursuing his Doctoral Studies on Countering Violent Extremism through Education in Multicultural Canada at McGill University Canada.
He also works as the Executive Director of International Council on Education for Teaching (ICET) ELITE and International Youth Coalition for Education.
He has represented Nigeria at different forums such as World Education Forum in Incheon, 66th UN/DPI NGO Conference in Gyeongju, Under-30 Young Change-makers Summit in New York, spoke at the 1st World Youth Forum Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and the 8th UNESCO NGO Forum in Paris to mention a few.
In 2017, Oluwaseun won Chevening Scholarship for which he ran his Masters program at University of Sussex. In 2018, he was nominated for the Future African Awards Prize in Education. And in 2019, under the Education Category, he received another nomination for SME 100 25 under 25 Awards.
