Hello readers, welcome to another edition on the Rebrand Nigeria Ambassadors Series!
We are always happy to keep up informed about the great achievements of Nigerians. As usually, we appreciate the efforts of global-world changers in our midst. Today’s focus is on a very interesting individual who is passionate about agriculture. As a fresh graduate from university, himself and his partner delved into helping farmers connect with processing companies to prevent post-harvest losses. This took four years of planning and building of a sustainable system that will harness growth in northern Nigeria.
Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you Uka Eje, a farmer, co-Founder and CEO of Thrive Agric. Uka studied Biochemistry from Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State and a MOOC on ‘The Future of Farming’ and ‘Innovation’ from University of Reading and University of Leeds, UK respectively. He was born in Benue State and he grew up in a farming community. He observed that farmers were challenged in three major areas which included; access to capital, access to a ready market and low income for the sale of their produce. This was his motivation to build Thrive Agric to provide solution to these problems.
The organization works with smallholders farmers across Africa providing them with the best inputs and machinery for their farms, data-driven advisory and access to premium markets. They raise their funds to assist the farmers via crowd-funding and in return, funders are well informed about farming activities and returns from harvest. Over 4000 farmers across 12 states in Nigeria have benefited from the company.
Thrive Agric also provides microloans to farmers and a platform to connect to many buyers such as flour mills. As for urban dwellers, they offer investment opportunities to fund agricultural operations, whether is it livestock or crops.
Uka is listed among Forbes Africa 30 under 30 lists for 2019.
God bless Nigeria!!
