Welcome to our mid-week episode, as we explore the healthcare sector. Three young empathetic, intelligent, problem-solvers decided to revolutionize the African healthcare using technology. Today, their company is the largest electronic medical records provider in West Africa. We will be showcasing one of these three innovators whose name is Adegoke Olubusi.
Goke, as he is fondly called is the co-founder and CEO of Helium Health; a tech-company that is building smart systems to improve the quality of healthcare using data technology in West Africa. The company was founded in 2016 and has successfully created an electronic medical records (EMR) system that contains data from over 500,000 patients across West Africa. Over 5,000 doctors in over 100 hospitals and clinics use the application and so far, they have recorded drastic reduction in medical errors in many hospitals across Nigeria.
The software has eradicated the manual process of documentation in hospitals and offers a user-friendly and well-organised procedure some of which include; creation of databases of patient profiles, monitoring of patient intake, medical histories, treatment timelines, scheduling patient visits, billing services etc.
The company has received many recognitions some of which are Etisalat’s Prize for Innovation -2016, accepted in YCombinator – 2017, leading EMR provider in Nigeria – 2018, largest EMR provider in West Africa – 2019 etc
Goke holds his bachelors in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Morgan State University, Maryland and his masters in Engineering/Industrial Management from John Hopkins University, Maryland. He is also the Managing Partner of Magic Fund; an early-stage venture capital firm located in San Francisco. He has previously worked at eBay, PayPal and Goldman in America. He is listed among Forbes 30 Under 30 US & Canada – Healthcare 2019, Future Africa Award Honoree and has received awards from Chevron, Lockheed Martins among others.
