To achieve these tall objectives, we implement a number of impact making projects, prominent among them is the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge, which is our idea pitching and grant competition for the benefits of young people who have ideas and talents that can be transformed into business ventures and social enterprises.

Today, we are glad to know that our efforts are not in vain as many of our beneficiaries have successfully launched their innovative ideas into business ventures using the knowledge, skills and grants they got from our center.

In this Series, “Hope for the Youths: Testimonies from Ugwumba Fellows”, we shall be showcasing the impacts of the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge in the lives and businesses of our beneficiaries from across the country.

This is the first edition of this Series and below is a practical testimony on the journey so far from the star prize winner of the first edition of the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge held in Owerri, on the 24th of May, 2019.

TESTIMONY FROM THE CEO OF GREEN BOX AFRICA.

Mr. Innocent Unachukwu is the CEO of GreenBox Africa, a startup renewal energy company based in Owerri, Imo State with a vision of lighting up Africa by 2030.

“Before we applied for the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge in 2019, we didn’t have a direction or vision for where we wanted to go. We just ran our business as a casual enterprise without any intention of taking it seriously.

It was after the various courses we learned during the Boot Camp that we began to see the business potentials of our product.

We were able to write our first official business plan after the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge experience which is still basically what has been guiding our growth and strategy since 2019.

As the winner of the star prize of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000), it became the catalyst that the GreenBox team needed to conclude our research/development and purchase critical equipment.

With a new understanding of market segmentation from the Boot Camp, we quickly launched 3 models of our product: GreenBox 400, GreenBox 1100 and GreenBox 1200 to carter for under-served market segments.

OUR BUSINESS PERFORMANCE AFTER 16 MONTHS
